Course Project Topic Discussion

Being in my specialist program, I have a class that requires a course project.  For my course project, I have decided to research family constellations focusing on children who have been adopted.  I have taught many children who have been adopted. I have also been lucky enough to be involved socially with a family that has adopted a child and I have seen him grow into a very bright young man.  Being on the outside looking in, this family dynamic made me curious.  Through my research, I hope to answer many questions that I have and that others may have.  For example, I am curious to see if there is a difference in the way children adopted into homes with a different race or culture than those students who are adopted into homes of their own culture relate to their families.  I am also interested in seeing if there is a correlation with gender and race that are adopted.  Another question I will strive to answer is as follows: Are parents supported through the community on how to help their adopted children cope with difficult issues that arise due to their adoption?  These are just a few of the questions I have at the moment, but check back soon to see others that I may have and what my findings maybe.  Also, please let me know if there are any questions you think I should consider.  Thank you for reading and come back soon!!!!

  3. I am a foster mom and I have fostered children from different races, ethnic backgrounds, and different cultures and I have come to realize that the children who come into my care end up adopting my culture. When they come in my home I try by all means to stick to stick to adhere to the background of their culture, however, the children gradually start to follow what my children do and eat. My foster children understand my language; speak a bit of my language for instance I have lived with one of them and she now speaks and sings in my language. I don’t care much about race or their ethnic background, my choice was only the age group. I like the younger children ages 5-10.

  5. You have chosen an interesting topic. I have often wondered what it must be like to adopt a child and to be adopted. I'm sure you will uncover some interesting facts in your research.
